Jellyfish Crochet Easy Pattern for Beginners

Meet Juicy and Jim, the jellyfishes, the new characters for Under the Sea Pals.

Tools and Materials

  • Worsted weight yarn (Yarn used in this pattern: Drops Cotton Light)
  • 3 mm crochet hook
  • 12 mm safety eyes
  • Fiberfill
  • Scrap yarns
  • Darning needle
  • Scissors

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • ch – chain
  • dc – double crochet
  • inc – increase
  • sc – single crochet
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • st/s – stitch/es
  • tr-inc – treble crochet increase
  • […] – repeat the instructions in brackets
  • (…) – indicates stitch count at end of round

Special Stitch

Treble Crochet Increase (abbreviation: tr-inc): Work two treble crochet stitches into the same stitch.

Umbrella/Head

– round 1: 8 sc in Magic ring (8)

– round 2: Inc all around (16)

– round 3: [1 sc, inc] x8 (24)

– round 4: [3 sc, inc] x6 (30)

– round 5: [2 sc, inc, 2 sc] x6 (36)

– round 6: [5 sc, inc] x6 (42)

– round 7: [3 sc, inc, 3 sc] x6 (48)

– rounds 8-15: Sc all around (48)

Insert safety eyes between rounds 10 and 11 with 8 stitches apart. Attach a scrap yarn on the side of the eyes with white yarn or color of your choice, and then, use black thread or scrap yarn to weave the mouth.

Fill fiberfill gradually.

– round 16: [3 sc, dec, 3 sc] x6 (42)

– round 17: Sc all around (42)

– round 18 A: 3 sl st, then Back-loop-only 2 sc, dec, [5 sc, dec] x5 (36)

– round 18 B: This will be the skirting part of the tentacles. Front-loop-only, insert a new yarn color, [Ch 2, dc in same st, [tr-inc] x2, dc, ch 2, sl st in same st, sl st in next st] x14 (14 skirting tentacles)

– round 19: Continue working from round 18 A, [2 sc, dec] x9 (27)

– round 20: [1 sc, dec] x9 (18)

– round 21: Dec all around (9)

Fasten off.

Tentacles

In 2 different colors, make 4 times each.

Ch 37, inc in the 2nd ch from the hook, then do inc all through out (70)

Fasten off. Leave a long tail to attach.

Sew the tentacles at the bottom.
