  • Fine (2) Cotton Yarn
    • Gray yarn (body + head detail + flippers)
    • White yarn (head)
    • Yellow yarn (bill + feet)
  • 2.5 mm Crochet hook
  • 5 mm safety eyes
  • Polyfiber stuffing
  • Yarn needle
  • Black thread and needle
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun (if you prefer)

Helpful tip: On Round 12 to 14 – sl st at the end of the round, then Ch1 before starting the next round to adjust the shape of the body.

Note: In the illustration below, the two pins on the body determine the part where to connect the flippers. I crocheted the flippers directly to the body. If you prefer to sew the flippers, you may skip this note.

Fasten off, secure and hide the yarn end.

Head (White yarn)

Continue working (from the body part), start on the 2nd or 3rd stitch of the previous round

Round 1. FLO inc all around (30)

Insert eyes between Rounds 5-6 of the head, 6 stitches apart

Round 7. Sc all around (27)

Stuff the body and head with polyfiber firmly.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Cut a long yarn end for sewing. Weave ends if you prefer not to sew.

Make 2 Webbed Feet (Yellow yarn)

Cut a long yarn end for sewing. Weave ends if you prefer not to sew.

Assemble and Final Touches

Set up the head detail on top of the head. Adjust if necessary. Sew it around the head and also connect it to the end of the body part.

Use black thread to doll up the eyes of the penguin with eyelashes.

You can also add blush to the cheeks with fabric paint or embroidery for extra charm. In my case, I avoided putting some blush-on (make-up) on the cheeks because I do not want to expose my little one’s toys to cosmetic products.

Sew all the other parts; you can also use a hot glue gun on the head detail and webbed feet. Better to sew the flippers so they easily flap.
