How and Why I Started Crocheting?
This question may seem very plain or boring to others… but to me, it is a kind of wonderful reflection I like to keep asking myself especially when I lose my “crojo”, a crochet mojo feeling. I would like to share to you something important for me, a story that I value,

Today, I’m going to share a very intimate and deeply treasured journey in my life, the time when I started to learn about crochet. This is the reflection about how and why I started crocheting.
Where it all Started
It was back in 2015 when I came across a post on Facebook. It was about a bride who crocheted her own wedding dress. It took her around six to eight months to finish it.
What stayed with me wasn’t just the dress, but her story. She would crochet every day on the bus on her way to work. That level of patience and dedication really touched me.
I remember thinking, how beautiful is that?
That moment stayed with me. The story stayed with me. And somehow, it planted a seed.

My First Yarn and Hook
The first person who truly supported me was my mother.
When I told her I wanted to learn crochet, she didn’t hesitate. She came home one day with a crochet hook and two yarns in different colors, all inside a simple plastic bag.
I still remember how I felt holding them. It wasn’t just yarn and a hook to me. It felt like a small beginning. A quiet kind of hope.
Why Crochet Came Into My Life
Looking back, I think crochet found me at the right time.
Those years were not easy for me. I went through setbacks in school, lost opportunities, and felt like I was falling behind in life. While others seemed to be moving forward, I felt stuck and unsure of where I was going.
Even though my family supported me and believed in me, I struggled to believe in myself.
One Stitch at a Time
When I started learning crochet, I was still trying to find my footing.
In a way, it reminded me of “frogging” — undoing stitches and starting over. I had to do that many times, not just in crochet, but in life too.
Crochet didn’t magically fix everything. But it gave me something I didn’t realize I needed.
It gave me space.
It gave me something steady.
It gave my hands something to do when my thoughts felt overwhelming.
One stitch. Then another. Then another.
The Quiet Comfort of Crochet
There’s something calming about repetition. About counting stitches and following a simple rhythm.
For me, it became a quiet form of comfort.
And then there’s that moment when you finally finish a piece. You can see it, hold it, and say, I made this. That feeling is hard to explain, but it stays with you.
When everything around me felt uncertain, crochet never rushed me. It didn’t expect me to be fast. It didn’t compare my progress to anyone else.
It simply allowed me to move at my own pace.
Why I Keep Coming Back to It
Even now, whenever I feel lost or unmotivated, I go back to this question:
Why did I start crocheting?
And the answer is always the same.
Because it gave me something steady when life felt uncertain.
